IT for children and young people

A pioneering pilot aimed at raising educational standards and aspirations amongst children and young people living in marginalised conditions. The project aims to help pupils improve their performance in school, their employability and to bridge the digital divide between the haves and the have-nots.

Good quality refurbished PC’s have been distributed, free of charge, to over 100 families in Leicestershire. Each family is living in one of the 10% most deprived housing estates in the Country.

Research shows that ICT access at home raises standards amongst pupils. They can work independently on the internet at home, they can access information, they can do research, they can go onto websites and do revision.

Feedback from beneficiaries includes:

  • "It helps with my homework"
  • "It is useful because our family and friends use it to help with homework, projects, researches"
  • "It has helped us all, before we didn’t know how to use a computer"
  • "It gets me off the streets, I can talk to friends and family and do my homework."
  • "Konnect9 were brilliant. They supplied our school with 30 refurbished computers for Key Stage Two children. Our children and their families really appreciated the computers and they have made a big impact on the children's learning at home," enthused Chris Hassall, Head Teacher at Taylor Primary School, Leicester.

Each year, refurbished computers are distributed to all year 6 (key Stage 2) children at Taylor Primary School, whose families do not currently have a computer at home.
