Free Toiletry Packs to Needy Emergency Patients

The Hospital Aid (Toiletries) Project, a highly innovative scheme to provide free packs of surplus toiletries to people admitted to hospitals across Leicestershire, mainly as accident and emergency patients.

With increasing numbers of people living alone, particularly elderly people, many patients have no friends or family able to bring a towel, toothbrush, etc, and nursing staff, already under considerable pressure, have the added burden of sourcing toiletries.

Since September 2007 we've been providing the hospitals with 500 free toiletry packs each month. Each pack contains a face flannel, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste and bar of soap and is distributed free to patients admitted through A & E.

The project is the first of its kind in the country and has been well received by both patients and nursing staff.
